Magnesium hydroxide is a white solid powder that is difficult to dissolve in water, insoluble in alkaline substances, and easily soluble in dilute acid and ammonium salt solutions. When heated, it decomposes into magnesium oxide and water. The initial decomposition temperature is 340 ℃, and the decomposition rate increases when it reaches 430 ℃. At 490 ℃, the decomposition is complete. There are three main methods for producing industrial magnesium hydroxide: 1. Using sodium hydroxide to react with brine and brine blocks to produce high-purity magnesium hydroxide. 2. Using calcined dolomite to react with brine and brine blocks to produce magnesium hydroxide. 3. Preparation of magnesium hydroxide by reacting limestone with brine and brine blocks. It is widely used as a flame retardant filler in fields such as plastics, rubber, and cables. The production of fireproof coatings is lightweight, decorative, and weather resistant. Preparation of magnesium oxide and metallic magnesium, production of magnesium oxide high-temperature fireproof bricks, etc.
